The battle against acne can be very daunting. It can take years of constant trips to the dermatologist. Most people consume tubs of night creams and sunscreens just to keep eruptions at bay. And just when break outs have died down, another battle begins - a battle against acne scars.
Acne scars can last for a very long time. They do fade away naturally, but it can take years before they become barely noticeable. Aside from that, acne scars are also very light and substance sensitive. Young scars exposed to too much sunlight or harsh chemicals can end up red and painful. Treating acne scars can be as troublesome as treating the acne itself. It can also be very expensive. But, there are a few home remedies that you can use to help minimize the appearance of acne scars. All you need is a little patience and the perseverance to stick to routine and do it every day.
Lemons and Limes
Citrus fruits like lemons and limes have a high citric acid concentration. Citric acid is great a breaking down stubborn scar tissue. It is also effective at lightening dark spots. Use the juice of lemons or limes to help you minimize the appearance of acne scars.
Before you go to bed, wash your face with soap and water. Then, rub on a little bit of lemon or lime juice on your face and let it stay for 5 – 15 minutes. Wash it away and dab your face dry. Don’t rub as it will irritate your skin more. Do this religiously every night and you will soon see an improvement.
Sandalwood and Rosewater
Mixing sandalwood and rosewater is very effective in reducing the appearance of acne scars. Mix three parts sandalwood with one part rosewater and apply it as a mask on your face. The sandalwood has a cool and soothing effect on the skin. Rosewater on the other hand has exfoliating properties. Make sure that you get real rosewater and not water laced with rose oil. If rosewater isn’t available, you can substitute milk instead. Sandalwood and rosewater are available in local specialty stores.
