Healing Adult Acne: Your Guide to Clear Skin And Self-Confidence

Contrary to popular belief, acne is not a problem exclusively experienced by teenagers. In fact, many people faced a skin problem called “adult acne.” The deteriorating effects of having to deal with acne beyond teenage years for an adult’s self-image may be even worse than having acne during adolescent.

One book that can help people cope with adult acne is, Healing Adult Acne: Your Guide to Clear Skin and Self-confidence, written by dermatologist and psychologists, Richard G. Fried. Published by New Harbinger Publications, the 178-page book tackles the physical and psychological damage of having adult acne. The book contains helpful information like acne treatments, (natural and medical), ways on how to relieve stress, and tips for building self-esteem.

The book breaks an acne myth that acne is something that adults do not experience. In fact, the risk of getting acne gets even higher as one age. Many women only begin to experience acne after menopause as an effect of lower estrogen levels. Acne because it is so common and widespread is not really considered a true disease. Many people also have wrong knowledge of its causes and cures. Recent findings revealed that wrong diet that is often blamed for acne breakouts is not the main cause of acne. Acne is usually caused by the skin's sebaceous glands being pathologically sensitive to certain hormones. Acne can also be a secondary symptom of certain diseases like polycystic ovary syndrome.

Some of the important questions that this book discusses and answers are… What are the physical manifestations of acne, What are the causes?, and How to treat them?  The book is complete and comprehensive as it gives importance to the physical aspects without ignoring the psychological implications of adult acne.
