The T-area or T-zone is an portion of the face where most acne outbreaks occur. Blackheads and Whiteheads also tend to develop more readily in this area. Clogged pores are also common in this zone. Such vulnerability to Acne has leads to an acne pattern called T-Area Pattern Acne.
Where is the T-Area Located?
The T-area starts at the middle of the forehead. It then extends a few inches sideways to form the top bar of an uppercase T. The zone continues down a line between the yes, the nose, around the mouth and then ends at the chin thus, completing the T shape.
Why is the T-Area prone to Acne?
Genetics and hormones are said to be the main reason why the T-area is so vulnerable to dust and oil. However, more often than not it is a persons habit that leads to more outbreaks in this area than in any other part of the face.
The T-Zone contains more oil glands that the rest of the face. Oil is said to contribute to acne and pimple outbreaks. Another reason why the T-zone is prone to acne is the fact that this people often touch this region with their hands. The action may be unconscious or intended. No matter what the motivation may be for touching the T-zone, it still adds to the dust and oil already abundant in the area. The T-zone is also prone to clog pores, people tend to pick on clogged pores and this action causes the outbreak to worsen.
How To Control T-Area Pattern Acne
There are a lot of ways to prevent acne from developing on the T-Area of the Face. Most of the solutions stem from one keeping the zone clean. Here are a few tips to help keep the T-zone clear.
· Avoid Touching the Area Doing this may be difficult at first, specially if people are so used to it. But, if acne relief is the goal, then people need to put a conscious effort into keeping hands off the T-zone. It will probably take 1-3 months to get readjust the habit of touching your face. But, once changes are made, it could greatly improve the condition of the T-Area.
· Regular Hand Washing Hand Washing is important in order to make sure that even if you touch the T-zone your hands are clean. It will not add any dust or oil to your face and will result in clearer skin.
· Applying Medicated Creams and Ointments Applying creams and ointments that have acne fighting components is helpful in keeping the T-Zone clear. Look for creams that have Salicylic Acid or Benzoyl Peroxide in them. Apply it regularly at least once or twice daily. If dryness occurs, look for a product with lower drug concentrations.
· Use Medicated Soap When washing your face, it may be helpful to use medicated acne soap on the T-zone. Soap made for oily skin is also effective.
Following the above tips can cause a dramatic change to the condition of the T-area. Other than those mentioned, dermatologists may also prescribed special medication and treatments to help keep that area of the face in control.
