Some people just have it all; fair, smooth, and blemish-free skin. When asked of their secret, they can’t seem to provide any definite answer. However, there are those individuals who are always eager to try just about any acne cure but are still plagued by embarrassing zits and pimples.
A recent study done by the scientist of Queensland Institute of Medical Research in Australia aims to provide an explanation when they conducted a research on why some people are prone to acne while others are able maintain their clear skin without any effort.
This large-scale study gathered together 500 pairs of adolescent identical and non-identical twins all in their adolescent years. Their ages range from 12 to 16.
The researchers examine the severity of pimples of all involved in the study and were able to confirm one fact. They found out that the number and severity of the pimples one will acquire relies on one’s gene, not the environment. Heredity therefore is the deciding factor and not the environment.
Nicholas Martin, the study leader says, "The next thing we're actually trying to do right now is to find which particular genes these are that are involved - in which chromosomes they are."
"We've already got some ideas on that, and once we've got those we'll have a much better idea what the mechanism is and what we can do about it,” the doctor added. |
