Benzoyl Peroxide is a popular and effective acne medicine but users may experience some side effects like skin itching and drying. One alternative that one can try is herbal medicine like green tea. This treatment is not only as effective as benzoyl peroxide; it is also safe and healthy.
Use of green tea to improve the general condition of one’s health is not new. It has been used by The Chinese people for centuries. But most people are not aware of the fact that green tea can also be used to prevent and treat acne.
This is proved by a research study conducted by Jennifer Gan-Wong, M.D. Dr. Wong compared the effects of using green tea cream against 4% benzoyl peroxide solution on people afflicted with moderate to severe acne.
The results revealed that green tea users and benzoyl peroxide users were both cured from acne. However, using green tea has its added advantages. For one, it has natural anti-bacterial properties and antioxidants, particularly epigallocatechin gallate. This substance is said to be 200 times more powerful than vitamin E at fighting free radicals.
Green tea extract can also be taken orally as a tea (without sugar) or be applied topically by using green tea creams. By using green tea, you will not only have smooth and blemish free skin, it can also help reduce inflammation, improve hormonal activity and aids in detoxification, which is beneficial for all people afflicted with acne.
